Module Summary

The Communication of Politics module explores the relationship between the means of mass communication and politics and offers both an institutional view of political communication, (for example reporting government or reporting Westminster) as well as a broader analysis of the ways in which the means of mass communication discuss ‘politics’. Specific areas including the coverage of elections, political interviewing, print coverage and controversies in the history of broadcasting will be used to illustrate key themes. Finally, the module examines the relationship between the communication of politics, public opinion and, more generally, the public understanding of politics.
